His father V P Khalid is a veteran theatre and film actor and appeared on various television shows and stage performances and his siblings are Khalid Rahman and Jimshi Khalid.

He started his career as a cinematographer and became the director and producer of various movies.

He was the director of the film “5 Sundarikal” produced by Amal Neerad in 2013. This is a Malayalam romantic anthology film released on 21st June 2013. The screenplay writers are Shyam Pushkaran, and Muneer Ali, starring Anika Surendran, Chetha Jayalal, and Kavya Madhavan.

In 2018 he received the ‘66th National Film Awards’, ‘49th Kerala State Film Awards’, ‘South Indian International Movie Awards’, ‘Movie Street Film Awards’, ‘21st Asianet Film Awards’, ‘CPC Cine Awards’ and ‘Vanitha Film Awards’ for best cinematographer of the film “Sudani From Nigeria.”

And in 2019 he achieved the ‘Movie Street Film Awards’ for best cinematographer of the movie “Kumbalangi Nights.”
