His father Jose Pellissery owned a cinema theatre when Lijo was a baby. The name of the theatre is ‘Sarathy Theatres.’
Lijo started his career as an assistant director of Manoj Pillai. Later he started to make short films and one of the short films was shortlisted in the PIX Short Film Festival in 2007. This boosted his confidence.
In 2010 he made his directorial debut through the film “Nayakan.” later he directed many movies and achieved popularity.

In 2019 he won the ‘50th International Film Festival of India’, ‘The International Film Festival of Kerala’, ‘The Sinema Zetu International Film Festival Award’ AND ‘50th Kerala State Film Awards for best director of the films “Jallikattu” and “Ee. Ma. Yau.”
