He was born on 1st June 1951 in Oorakam, Melmuri, Malappuram, Kerala, India. Now he is 71 years old. He belongs to a Muslim family. His birth sign is Libra.

Education and Qualification
He completed higher secondary education at GVHSS Vengara. He gained graduation in Commerce from Sir Syed College, Thaliparamba.
Then he completed a post-graduate diploma in Business Management from Farook College, Kozhikode.
Early Life and Career
He entered into politics through the Muslim Students Federation (MSF), the student wing of the Indian Union Muslim League. He was selected as the secretary of the student union at Farook College.
In 1980 he was elected as the Chairman of Malappuram Municipality. At that time he was only 29 years old.
In 1982 and 1987 he was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Malappuram Constituency.
In 1991, 1996, and 2001 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Kuttipuram Constituency.
And in 2011 and 2016 he was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Vengara Constituency.
From 1991-1995 he served as the Minister for Industries and Social Welfare. It was under the Chief Minster K Karunakaran.
From 2003-2011 he served as the General Secretary of the Kerala State Indian Union Muslim League. In 2007 he was elected as the Treasurer of the Indian Union Muslim League.
From 2016-2017 he served as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
On 10th May 2017, he was elected to the member in Committee on Government Assurances.
In 2017 he was elected as the Member of Parliament from Malappuram Constituency in a bye-election. A bye-election is held due to the death of the former Indian Union Muslim League leader E Ahamed.
